Nice but, not worth hacking up factory tranny lines
I thought another reviewer was BS'ing when he said tranny lines don't plug in. The tranny cooler hasa little 1/4 NPT female thread(flow restricting hole), factory is 5/8(pretty sure) male thread w/inverted flair. Only option is hacking up factory lines and hoseclamping stuff. Too much work...It physically fits in place of factory but instead of a two hour job it looks more like two days. I'm sending mine back...very dissapointed in Griffin R&D dept. It would have been way easier for them to put bigger holes in them tranny coolers and people could easily adapt down. Heading to carquest where I can buy 3 oem quality radiators for the price of this one Griffin with a weak warranty anyway. Very dissapointed. Great if your hooking up new tranny lines anyway I guess, but I didn't see the point. In a Cherokee, the bottom tranny line is best in stock configuration, IMO, regardless of the motor/tranny combo and associated plumbing to it. Good Luck hacking at that bottom one. Jeep JX Griffin radiator
I have a 4.6 liter stroked XJ with about 260 horsepower. I have tried the following to cure overheating:
1) Ford Taurus 4500 cfm fan
2) 280Z style hood vents
3) flow kooler water pump
4) water wetter in the coolant
5) high flow thermostat housing
6) balanced thermostat
Most of those changes got me mediocre results or no help or just help under certain operating conditions. The griffin radiator cured my overheating under all conditions. I should have made this mod before I did any other cooling mods.
works fairly well, but does not fit without modifications
after you get past the fact that the transmission cooler fittings don't match the original item and manage to find adapters to make this radiator connect, be prepared to make modifications ranging from cutting inner fenders to clear those adaptors, to relocating the upper mounts forward to get the radiator to clear the fan.
definitely does a better job of cooling than the stock unit or the 3-row metal unit i had before, but still allows the temps to rise when working at low speed in the heat.
